Getting Ready for Big Wednesday!
Hey guys! Tomorrow night is our second Big Wednesday of the year. I hope you will all make it a priority to be there and bring a friend as this is our one Wednesday per month to Urge our friends to be here. We will be planning some fun games and I will be talking on Loving God and Loving others and what that looks like in a very practical way. We don't begin until 7:45 PM so if you have games or practice, we hope you'll grab your whole team and bring them with you.
I also want to encourage you to continue pursuing your small group times. These times are to be encouraging, a time to share your week with your peers as well as have a loving adult care and pray for you.
Finally, everyone needs to be aware that the deadline for winter camp deposits is Sunday, October 11! If you would like to go with us you will need to pay $75 non-refundable deposit. Please let your parents know about this date!

Wednesday Night, September 23
Last night was a night of great discussion. I wanted to share some thoughts from our discussion. First, there were more questions that answers last night but I think I can sum it up something like this. We as Christians are to be set apart. For us to do that we need to know what makes Christ's Followers different than the everyday Joe. What I challenged the kids last night to do, was they need to get to know Jesus, according to the scriptures. Often we think we know Christ and live according to our opinions or the opinion of the last teacher/pastor we heard speak. We seldom take the time to read the Bible, which God has left for us so we might know Him, His Character, His Love, His Justice, His concern for His people, His sacrifice, etc. It is important that if we profess to know Jesus, that we know Jesus! This was the focus of our discussion. I would like to continue this next month at our next UTURN In House. If you have something to add here please feel free to leave a comment. Understand this is a very brief summary of our very long discussion last night.

66-1 Samuel 9:1-2
Day 3: The People asked for a king and God provided Saul. Does God sometimes allow us to get what we ask for even if it's not in His perfect plan for us?
Today's study is a great day to discuss God and His word. Here we have the Israelites asking for something that will not be good for them. God gives them what they ask for. This doesn't fit our nice theology about God. It's like a teenager asked their dad if they can put their hand in the fire and the dad says, "Sure." That doesn't fit my paradigm of what I want from God. The bottom line however, is that God gives us the will to choose Him or reject Him. He knows the outcome of each choice and through His word has revealed to us the same. In this case the Israelites rejected God, and He allowed them to do so. They were caught up in what the world around had, and they were wanting the same things. They took their focus off God and put it on the world and their desires changed. How often is that true today of us?
This passage has much for us to discuss with our kids at home, so let's take time today to do that!

Coffee House!
Last night was great! Thanks for joining us for our 1st UTURN Coffee House of the year. Last night we discussed how to become godly men and women in light of the distracting culture that surrounds us. We also discussed how we, ourselves, can be distracted by "lust of the flesh", "lust of the eyes", and pride in lifestyle". Each of these we need o be aware of and have a plan to prepare to defend against each of them. One thing we can do is spend time in the Word of God as we seek to build our relationship with Him. Another important strategy is to find our identity in Christ and not in what we do or what we have. Finally, we need to surround ourselves with like minded people (Christ Followers).
This is just the beginning in a long process of becoming like Christ and approaching each critical decision in life from a Christ-Like perspective. I hope you will join us next month as we look at Ephesians 6:10-18 and discuss the fact that God gives you as a Christian everything needed to battle spiritual forces in the world.
Check this site daily for updates on our study in LXVI and once a week for our Critical Decisions discussion. Stay plugged in to what God is doing in and through UTURN Ministries! You are all an important part of what God wants to do here!

LXVI: Samuel 2:3-4
Boasting? When we boast there is a sense that all that happens to us or for us is caused by us. We need to be careful to recognize God in all that we do and all that we have. Our boasting can also affect those around us in a negative way, so we must be careful to be building others up and not ourselves.
Have there been times where you have felt weak? How has God given you the strength to overcome?
Be sure to discuss this with your parents as the goal is to have God be in our conversations throughout the day. We also want to continue to grow on our own as we read the word each day!
Know That I am Praying For You,
